Patience, Humility, and Love
And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.(Micah 6:8)
If you were to ask me two years agowhere I would be or what would I be doing, I would have said, “Living in Latin America and working with an agency like HOPE worldwide”. However, in the last two years I graduated from PacificLutheranUniversity with a triple-major, fell in love, got married, and am being trained to work for the church and its ministry. Where my life is now and what I am doing, is better than my former expectations. I can honestly say that I have the best job in the world; one where I work as a Youth Ministry Intern for the South Sound Church of Christ, and the other for HOPE worldwide – Washington as a program coordinator on the Muckleshoot Native American Reservation. Although these positions do not require the typical experienced resumé (though I’m sure it helps!), a business dress code, or to work a certain time slot during the day, I have learned that these positions do require a lot of patience, humility, and love.
As the Teen Minister for the South Sound Church of Christ, I am truly grateful for all the teens in the Teen Ministry. During our weekly devotionals, we play games, tell jokes to one another, discuss the Bible, and have a lot of fun. To say we have a great time would be an understatement. We currently have 6 Teen Disciples and are studying with other teenagers who also want to become disciples of Jesus Christ. Three teenagers who have been instrumental in the growth of our Teen Ministry are the three High Schools Seniors in our Teen Ministry—Kiara Fitzpatrick, Wesley Channell, and Tj Rodriguez.
Money is so often divisive. Most of us can remember parents or grand-parents soberly abjuring us from discussing money, religion, or politics, in or out of our households. For disciples, two of these three are still sensitive topics, and none more so than cold, hard cash. Money can bless the church or divide the church. Since disciples tenaciously strive for the “complete unity” that Jesus prayed for, coming to a consensus about money in the church is a serious and essential step in “contending as one man” for the gospel in Seattle. What can God’s word tell us about such sensitive waters?
If you are a disciple in a campus ministry in the Northwest family churches, then you and your friends are invited to attend our 2nd Annual Northwest Campus Retreat this April at the Ghormley Meadow Christian Camp in Yakima, Washington (located in Central Eastern Washington) www.ghormleymeadow.org. The theme of this year’s retreat is “MADE”. There will be several classes which will help you build a closer relationship with God. Classes include: “MADE” to—Be like Christ, Lead others, Be Beautiful (Women Only Class), Sacrifice, Save others. In addition to these classes, you will have time to either play: a round of paintball with friends, play a few games of Frisbee Golf, go hiking or mountain biking, and/or participate in other types of activities during free-time.
We will start the retreat on Friday Night, April 25th, and will be ending after having a worship service on the morning of Sunday, April 27th. The retreat will cost $65 per person. Registration will start at approximately 5pm on April 25th at the Ghormley Meadow Campground (Please make all checks out to the Seattle Church of Christ). Food will be provided during the weekend i.e. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, on Saturday and a Light Breakfast on Sunday morning, except for Friday night (Everyone is responsible for buying there own food for the first night). Make plans to come because a retreat this great was MADE specifically for you. The schedule for the retreat will be posted within the up-incoming weeks.
NOTE: Parking in front of the building is limited. Additional parking available across the street.
HOPE Adoptions - Immediate Placing Available
HOPE for Children in Atlanta GA has 12 orphans from India and 10 orphans from China that need to be placed for immediate adoption. Since these
children have been assigned to HFC, once a homestudy and document
preparation is completed, the wait time should be less than 6 months.
If you would like information about the children, along with their
pictures, please see the following link to the HOPE for Children website:
Did you know that almost ALL the sermons from last year are online and available for download? We have quite the archive forming, and they are all freely available for download to your computer. What can you do with these? Well, how about:
Burn a sermon on a CD and listen to it on the way to work
Synchronize it with your iPod or other mp3 player for workout and ?
Compile a CD to send to troops stationed overseas
Create a CD to give to a friend who may be interested in visiting our church.
Missed one of the "Now Is The Time" informational meetings? You can watch the video that was created right here! The video that was recently produced does an excellent job at showing exactly what we are trying to do as a church with our "Now Is The Time" campaign.

It Takes A Village
There is an ancient African proverb that says: “It takes a Village to Raise a Child.” On Sunday, February 18th of this year, for sixteen year-old Wesley Channell and the rest of the South Sound Church of Christ, this phrase now has new meaning.
“Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” (I Timothy 4:12)
