Our Board of Directors
Walter Channell, President
Walter Channell has served as President of the South Sound Church of Christ Board of Directors since 2006. He and Melody, his wife of 24 years serve as Deacons and Regional Leaders of the ministry on the Kitsap Peninsula. Together, they have raised their three wonderful children (Whitney, Wesley, and Christina) in the church. In 2006, Walter retired from the Navy with honors as a Lt. Commander. He holds a BA from Boston University, and is currently working on his Masters Degree through Chapman University. Walter still works for the Navy in the Human Resources Department, this time as a civilian!
Tom Nicholas
Tom Nicholas has lived in Tacoma WA for the vast majority of his life. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma and has some college experience at WSU. He has worked at Roman Meal Bread Company for 14+ years as a computer programmer. Tom was baptized into Christ in October of 1998. He has been married for 2+ years now and he and his wife Lisa just had their very first child, Luke. He loves reading and relaxing at a good coffee shop, tinkering with computers, and is still slowly outgrowing his love of video games.
Yvonne Burch
Yvonne Burch has joyfully served God as a member of the South Sound Church of Christ for over 15 years. Born and raised in the Tacoma-Puyallup area she currently resides in University Place with her loving Husband Gary of 10 years and two incredible kids Olivia, and Bella. She has her AA-DTA degree from Pierce College and worked at Carlson Wagonlit Government Travel for over ten years as an executive travel assistant and is now able to be at home with her kids. Yvonne has always had a passion for traveling throughout the world, sharing in the culture and history of others. Her greatest dream since becoming a Christian is to see the South Sound Church grow and thrive by serving in campus, singles, and married ministries.
Karla Overstreet
Karla Overstreet has been leading the women in the South Sound Church of Christ for 12 years, and serves as the staff representative for the Board of Directors. Karla holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Washington, and has plans to return someday for a Master’s in Counseling. In the meantime, she enjoys teaching, facilitating women’s discussion groups, overseeing the church kids program, spending time with her family, and trying to sneak out with her husband to their favorite sushi restaurant!
Daryl Wallace
Daryl Wallace has been a member of the South Sound Church of Christ for 14 years. During that time, he has served the church in nearly every capacity as a leader. He and Ruby, his wife of 26 years, have raised their family in the church. Their two children, Marcus and Stephanie, are faithful Christians in the church. Daryl holds an MA in Human Resources from Northern Illinois University. In November of 2008, Daryl retired after 22 years of service as a Nuclear Electrician in the United States Navy. Although retired, Daryl has still kept a close relationship with the Navy by now working as a Human Resource executive for the service.
Ron Brumley
Ron Brumley is an elder in the Seattle Church of Christ. Ron serves the South Sound Church of Christ by providing assistance, consultation, and spiritual oversight. He was instrumental in helping train the SSCOC Board of Directors, and helps us maintain a vital working relationship with the Seattle Church of Christ.
